Pay with a credit card -- the credit card companies can often help
you resolve disputes. Know the merchant's physical address and phone
number before placing an order. If in doubt, phone the merchant with
a question about their return policy and assess their
professionalism. Be wary if the site does not disclose a physical
address and phone number.
Inspect your order upon arrival for damages to exterior, wrong package, all packages have been delivered and correct item appears to be in the carton.Upon opening all
packages. Check for damages, parts and accessories. If the item is
electrical or mechanical test it as soon as possible.
DON"T throw out the box. Save it until you know the item is right. You may need to hold some boxes for at least a month or more. Original packing is often required to return merchandise. Don't just read a vendor's "satisfaction" statement. Look for their
Return Policy or Return Instructions. Check out this true example...

satisfied with your order, for any reason, we will gladly replace

Measure and re measure.
Always measure repeatedly. If in doubt ask for a second
opinion and look on the site. They usually offer a customer service
number to help.
Make a template on paper of small
items to get an idea of how they will look in size. Hold it against
the wall or area it will go in.
When ordering gift baskets always
ask what they are sending, quantities and even the size of packaged
food in the basket.
Any rebate offers should be filled
and mailed immediately. Some rebate offers expire if not sent in
within the specified time and they will not pay.
Clothing and shoes are always dificult when not tried on. Manufacturers all have their own cocneption on cuts and sizes. So be prepared for disappointents when tryimg different items online.
